2017 Montana Archery Mtn Goat Complete
Score, for those interested, was 41 3/8” net with the broken tip on his left horn from tumble down a cliff. He was a 3 year old billy, and it was the most difficult and rewarding hunt I’ve ever done! Also wouldn’t have been able to do it without a great friend, thanks again Doug!!- 0hndycp

Idaho general deer hunt last week
Great buck and it takes a truly great hunter to kill a mature mule deer when they aren’t rut crazed stupid! I totally agree TWSNOW18, that Idaho is far superior to MT for a general season mule deer hunt based on the fact they don’t general season hunt through the entire rut! -

Montana statistics and hunters number statistics aren't worth the paper they're printed on. When you can hunt 7/8 of the state for over 3 months there's no way you can get an accurate picture! I send in my comments every season and attend every meeting I can possibly swing. My voice is always heard, but always ignored! After all what do I know about wildlife and mule deer, I'm not a biologist. It's not like I spend upwards of 80 days a year in the woods, and have done so every year... -

Just make it a 3 week season like a few of the units in NC Montana are. If you then want to do some REGULATED rut hunts by permit only great or a general late archery season great also. It wouldn't take a lot of management to have great mule deer hunting again! -

I'm not saying take away the chance for everyone to shoot a buck, let's just not do it unlimited during the rut! The problem is that the average hunter in MT wouldn't be able to kill a buck that wasn't full rut dumb standing next to the road so the "hunter" can shoot with a mirror rest or handle... -

Totally agree Gomer, the rut hunting of bucks should be extremely limited and the only antlerless deer shot should be done on private land! Just eliminating the unlimited rifle rut hunting would help tremendously because 3/4 of the hunters would never kill a deer because they wouldn't be able to... -

I've given up all hope of MT FWP ever managing mule deer properly! Hunting mule deer for 6 weeks, through the entire rut, with rifles and unlimited permits is not management.....it's extermination! -

I'm still extremely upset about whole camp fire garbage! My buddy has made it his mission to find out who it was, and get them prosecuted.....it was a 1 ton power stoke ford, white, personalized plates, and had a valley ford dealer decal......so wish I'd taken a picture of plates!- 0hndycp

MT archery mountain goat
First shot was 49 yards angle compensated. Goat was quartering away and entered behind last rib and exited just in front of off side front shoulder. He was done after first shot but I learned hard way on my first archery goat, if they give you another chance to put another arrow in you do it...- 0hndycp
