    Best hunting sidearm?

Like many, I carry no side arm if just 45-70 rifle hunting southern Cal. If scouting....GP100 4.2 stainless 357.

Why all the fuss about snake boots?

I wear them in hills above San Diego...came across a small rattler a few years ago that wanted to chase me....very aggressive...nasty attitude.

How many have hunted the west with a single shot rifle?

Though not a 'designated' one shot, my only rifle I utilize for current western hunting is a 45-70 for which, if you calculate the cycle time following the significant recoil and adjustment of rifle takes almost just as long as a single shot with rapid reloading skills.

CPW director on leave after complaint of racist comment

I've read 5 pages of our back and forth opinion.......boils down to...when in public, say nothing, joke nothing, pre-plan your public presentations and stick to script (learn from our fading President). When in private....chose your tribe. If you are a public figure, corporate leader - every...

    Who's shooting a 45-70?

Never had one of my recipients of my 45-70 report excessive noise upon receipt...but, upon your insistence, I could ask them again.

    Who's shooting a 45-70?

Forgot to mention in my photo tour above that preferred ammo is a light Hornady factory 250 grain mono-metal....1 moa.....but limited to 200 yards for larger game as energy drops rapidly......Calif limits us to lead free/expanding....so can't be too picky when hunting in-state.

    Who's shooting a 45-70?

My only rifle currently and maybe into the future…Marlin JM GS

    Optics/Bullet for First Elk Tag

.....after all the professional advice you have received...if you are still grasping for something different...you can join some of us traditional hunters that stalk our prey like our fore fathers. For me I trust my 45-70 with a 2-8 scope approaching all shots taken within 200 yds. And at this...

    Barrel Break-in

Let's ask Dr. Fauchi today.......clean the barrel after every shot. Let's ask Dr. Fauchi tomorrow......no need to clean the barrel. I actually like the presentation YouTube channel 'GunBlue490' gave on the subject. His opinion....really no mechanical accomplishment in barrel prep.....he said...

What is your most consistent Rifle ?

I’ve recently unloaded a Weatherby Vanguard ii stainless 270 because of inconsistent patterns. I always return to my JM 45-70 that no matter what conditions or how warm the barrel shoots close to 1 moa with lead free GMX 250 gr sporting a 2-8 Vortex Diamondback HP. I just have to limit my range.

    Looking for advice.....

Elkhnter....thank you for your note.....thank you to everyone!...but your note touched a deeper thought connected with my choice.....I was buying the gun to please the already purchased ammo rather than finding the right gun......made me stop to think long term.....thank you.

If you had to choose between a Ruger 44 Alaskan Super Redhawk vs Ruger Redhawk stainless 7.5"......which would you pick for HD and woods walk back up....keep the discussion between these 2......cost for me used would be $855 and $730 respectively....both 95% condition...used.
