    Ebonizing Walnut

Looking good @nhenry!! And bravo to you for experimenting! If I may derail for a minute to help anyone else looking to do some self gunsmithing. @BrentD suggestion to wrap tape around where nhenry was going to make his cut. This is an oldtimers trick to help keep the wood fibers from flaying...

    custom rifle suggestions

If it's a Defiance An-Ti action, then is it really a Model 7?? At that point it's really a full on custom rifle.

    Seized Cylinder on Revolver

My friend (he's done black powder all his life) uses hot (boiling) water and vinegar to break through the nasty from an uncleaned revolver. He's gotten several to shooting condition using this.

    50 or 45 caliber inline?

Well, i ended up getting a Traditions (can't recall the model) in 45. Put an EGW base on it with a 3-9X40 Crimson Trace Hardline scope. Interestingly enough, Traditions says NOT to use patched round ball or Minnie ball in it. Sabot only. I have an order in with Cutting Edge Bullets for...

Ready for a new 7 mag load

I'd tend to agree with 300stw. Vihtavouri N550, N565, N570, IMR7828, Retumbo, H1000 would do you better than IMR4350. The 4831 would be close to RL19 burn wise. Not the highest velocity, but decent accuracy. RL23 and RL26 are good for the bullet weight, but finding any is hard to say the...

I do almost all of my own work. But the devil is in the details. @p_ham has shown the attention to detail that merits the accolades he has received.

    Ebonizing Walnut

My ex-wife stripped the finish off my old Savage 110 wood stock. Once she got the brown paint excuse of a stain off of it, we were amazed at the grain in the wood. She used some white oak stain and polyurethane. I have another wood stock for a 110 that I want to try Shou-sugi-ban on. It's...

    Restoring Accuracy, Remington 700

You could always do the same as a radiator cap replacement. Where you take off the radiator cap and pull a different vehicle in. Put radiator cap on. In this case, remove the Remington emblem and put it on a Savage. Lol

Pondering factory loads vs starting loads

Ditto 7X57 Mauser. I've been loading to the reloading manual for my daughter's rifle. She's recoil shy.

Pondering factory loads vs starting loads

Also, @Bullshot , the ammo factories are supposed to keep loads safe. Look at cartridges like the 257 Roberts, 45-70, and 45 Colt. There are different pressure levels for those cartridges depending on the firearm being used. Factory doesn't know what firearm you have. Or what you're likely...

One case for all your rifles

On the 30-06 case i have (2) 25-06, a 280 Rem and a 270 Win. Oddly enough all of them are Ruger rifles. On the 7X57 Mauser case, my daughter is shooting a Mauser in 7X57 Mauser. I have a Ruger in 257 Roberts, and a Savage in 257 Roberts AI. And now i have 2 Weatherby Magnums also. Oops...

Ready for a new 7 mag load

I picked up Norma brass for my 257 WBY. Holding up good so far. For my 7mm WBY, I managed to get some Peterson brass. I have 5 loads on some of them, and are holding up well also. I use a variety of different brass for the 7mm Rem Mag. The rifle likes it on the high side. I usually get 5-6...

Pondering factory loads vs starting loads

Some years ago (7-10), Remington had a recall on their green box 270 Win ammo. They ended up being loaded hot. One of the guys I work with had the chamber deform and mechanism lock up on his Remington pump action rifle. I found the recall, and showed it to him. He forgot about it and that...
