Easy question for you all....re: elk tag vs points

I got an email from Wyoming fish and game stating that Jan 31st was the last day to apply for an elk license. I assume if all I want to do this year is buy an elk POINT, that the deadline is much later in the year? Thank you!! Don

1st Antelope Hunt - Check me

I agree 10000% the first time you hunt these little dudes, you'll likely guess they are farther away than they really are and shoot right over their back!

    300 lb Alberta white tail

Nice whitetail! I doubt it's 3 bills! Silly forced perspective shots are for attention and ego.

I have NEVER shot a mule deer! :( ..... Would love some input on where to chase my first one.

You guys are all AWESOME! I guess I will start researching KS! I think I just fell prey to the "grass is always greener" scenario. That was easy! Thank you!!!

I have NEVER shot a mule deer! :( ..... Would love some input on where to chase my first one.

I have killed my fair share of whitetail, and Pronghorn, but I have yet to even hunt Mule Deer. I live in East Central KS, and I have 2 points in WY. As I start doing my research, have any of you got any input as to where I might set my sights for my first mulie hunt? Thank you!!

ye ole' "help me with my very first elk hunt" post

Thank you my friend! It's been an eventful 18 mos!! 20 years of marriage, down the drain! I didn't even hunt last year. I'll start putting in for the KS hunts, and do what I can to get out West, I need to get back to doing something I love. Thanks again!

ye ole' "help me with my very first elk hunt" post

Thanks so much! I am happy for ANY input!! I'm just not sure I can take the time off work, or spend the cash to make repeated trips in one year. I do have a friend in MT, so I will take your advice on applying there! You think it's easier to get a tag there? Thanks again.

ye ole' "help me with my very first elk hunt" post

I am in the process of doing my own research, but I value your collective experiences more than my newbie speculation. For several years I planned on going on my first elk hunt as my dream hunt. I bought points in WY for 4 years, then a messy divorce stomped out those dreams. (just being...

    Gillette area antelope issues

When I was there 3 years ago, there was a "die-off" of one buck that I know of! ;P

    Tikka or X-Bolt

They are both great! I have a tikka .270 and it is an absolute laser beam!! I put a Leupold scope on it, and everything I have pointed it at has died! I have friends that swear by the X-bolt... can't imagine you'd go wrong with either one.

Baby horns, under the mature horns...

yup, I simmered the skull like I always do, then gently pulled the horns off. Usually the material that is still covering the core (next years pre-horns) is just like a pale leathery cap. In this case when I pulled off the mature horns, they slipped off the cores clean as a whistle! Inside the...

Baby horns, under the mature horns...

I knew the process by which next years horns were grown, but I have never actually pulled a pair of next years horns out of this years horns! Is this common?
