    Big Bore Boar!

Heckuva a bear taken with a cannon! Are you backing up clients or was this rifle intended for Africa?

    Elk Hunting for Grouse

This podcast really got the idea mill churning. How pervasive are blue grouse in Colorado? I'd like to do a backpack hunt just for them with longbow and handgun. Where does one start planning such a trip?

    Anyone Use Opticsagent.com Before?

I am wanting to put a Leupold on my Ruger No.1 (1-A, 7x57) and have been shopping around. I can't spare much right now but found excellent prices on opticsagent.com. However, I have never even heard of this website before. Too good to be true?

What is the Lowest Odds Hunt That You Apply For?

Interesting! I never knew that many people applied for the Henries!

    camp pics

Jackrabbit Camp (yes, really) at Cedar Bluff SP near Ellis, KS in October 2016---- I had grand designs for Sardinian Hare Stew and it did not happen. 45+ MPH winds the first night and then it peaked at 98 F on the second day of the hunt (in October!).

What is the Lowest Odds Hunt That You Apply For?

I was recently looking at some of the draw odds for the Oklahoma elk hunts that I put in for every year. In 2014, you had a 1:6,701 chance of drawing the single elk permit for the Cookson Hills WMA. Similarly, the odds for the Pushmataha tag were 1:6,411. Quite the moonshot! Apparently, Oklahoma...

    garden seeds

I ordered some Habanada (heatless habanerno: http://smallfarms.cornell.edu/2015/04/06/habanada/) seeds from Baker Creek a few months ago and had a neighbor with a greenhouse start them. I split the seeds with him and my folks, but am excited to plant a small backyard garden this year. I've also...

    Favorite On a Budget rifle

I purchased a T/C Venture a few years ago and have been extremely impressed with it. I picked up the Ruger American at the same time and found the Venture superior in all regards. It is chambered in .338 Winchester Magnum and the groups with factory Hornady 200 gr SSTs were under 3/4 MOA at 100...

    Kansas Turkey Adventures

Congrats! I've hunted Kansas public land the last two weekends and the wind has been killer. I went to my midmorning spot yesterday to find a gobbler standing 20 yards from where I parked my truck on the WRONG (private) side of the road. Typical turkeys proving that they are smarter than I am. I...

    Rock Dove for Hard Times

Yes! Agreed. I am also loving these Eurasian Collared Dove, despite being exotics. Much more meat per bird, they decoy readily, and are great tasting. My favorite thing is to baste them with honey and African Bird Chili (Peri Peri) sauce.

    Rock Dove for Hard Times

TRS, I've hunted crows quite a bit in the past but have never ate one. How do you prepare them? 1_pointer, never considered trapping them. Sounds like a good idea for dog-trainer.

    Rock Dove for Hard Times

Anyone wingshooting pigeons (AKA Rock Dove)? I do my fair share of deer, turkey, and traditional small game hunting but I've found diminishing returns on the limited public land available in eastern Kansas. To remedy this, I'm attempting an outreach campaign to acquire hunting rights for feral...

Is the 100 yrd shot ethical?

For me personally it is a question of flight time. I've met some very good shots who can consistently hit that far. However, none of them have yet been able to demonstrate control over wind gusts or an animal's movement. There is just too much that can go wrong from Point A to Point B. Deer jump...

    AAE Competition Archery Stabilizer (Used)

AAE Competition Stabilizer $45 shipped CONUS Condition - Good - Functional with cosmetic wear (some finish worn around edges) I've used this stabilizer for a few years and have had good luck with it. Since I've got out of ASA competition and do more hunting now I'm going to switch to a shorter...

Who do you trust more with public lands/who will you vote for?

FWIW. I'll be voting Gary Johnson purely out of my salience regarding economic issues. However, as much as I loathe Hillary Clinton she is by far-and-away the best option with regard to public land conservation. I offer for your consideration...

    BHA and the green decoys

Agreed. It is nice to have guys who have the spirit of Aldo Leopold, an eye towards the future, AND the decency to respect the quarry that they pursue.

    BHA and the green decoys

Ha! This has been debunked quite a while back. I was a proud BHA member and need to renew my membership. If being a hunter who is conservation-minded and wants to ensure public land access for future generations makes you a green decoy, then I'm a green decoy. Steven Rinella does a good job...

    Eastern Colorado Cow Elk?

Thanks all. Sounds like the plains hunt is probably a waste of time without good connections or some insider knowledge. I'll keep dreaming for the time being.
