Snagged a return tag in SD for a unit that takes 11 years for a resident to draw and found this guy first morning about an hour in. I’m a big elk guy but these mule deer I’m absolutely obsessed with the last few years.
Hey guys, I have 2 years of preference in Wyoming and I plan on applying this winter. Is there elk on public in the units 116 or 117 that a guy can actually deal with or is it a private land deal? I would like to hunt there cuz it’s only a 7 hour drive from home vs 10 and I could do more than...
If she wants scenery get her an elk tag in the Rockies, but for nine points antelope I think I’d pick the best unit and shoot one. The scenery I’d want is horns in my hands.
Nebraska might be your only option next year because they are really looking into limiting non resident archery hunters. Lots of really good public areas get hit with way too many guys and the in staters are complaining about it, like Sand Lake and the Custer forest in Harding. I for one am for...
You CANNOT camp on state or school land in South Dakota, only national forest, national grassland, or blm ground. And as far as fires go I wouldn’t try it.
Hey everybody, I’m looking to find a hunting partner from Wyoming that would be willing to take me and a friend or two into wilderness area to bow hunt elk next fall. Being said we’d either be willing to pay or help guide the said partner to some game in SD where we are from. Probably not on the...
FYI they give out 3500 resident deer tags, it’ll be busy. Personally I’d go later in the month. Bigger deer come out towards thanksgiving and start chasing does. And less people will be out then
I’ve been thru a lot of that area custom harvesting for family. Beautiful country, didn’t see many antelope but the ones I have seen shot out there are generally decent.
I heard a rumor that the prices might go up considerably for 2019. Is this a hoax or something they’d want to do? I know SD doe antelope tags are $80 for nr and Montana isn’t much different. I honestly think if they went up the tags would get bought up so fast.
Killing any elk on any public land tag that’s allows the harvest should be considered successful. Here in SD where it takes an ungodly long time to draw an any elk tag I’ve decided I’m not going to wait 20+ years to draw so I have been putting in for cow tags. I get to gain some knowledge about...
Personally I like my 300 win mag.? A little excessive but you put the bullet in the right spot there’s no difference in damage. Plus you get better at shooting a gun you may use elk or moose hunting eventually
Sounds fine to me. They cut back for years and all of a sudden they gave out over 1000 cow tags the last two years. The hills could handle more elk, they let a pile of cattle our there so why not let the elk flourish
You're going to have to wait several years to draw an any antelope tag out here. I'd say you'd have just as much luck waiting for a decent unit in Wyoming as you would in SD.
Planning for next year already. I'm interested in Wyoming because of distance to home. Now I'm curious as to how the special preference draw works. I have zero points but would I be able to pull that tag without any points in that draw?
As a resident of SD I really wish they'd limit nr archery tags like any state that has a decent herd of deer. And the mentor tag thing is a joke. Let little kids have a centerfire rifle in Sept to shoot at deer when it's hot or there's people bow hunting or pheasant hunting. They should make the...
Learn to wait for the gravy tags. Put in for extra tags, hunt crap units, struggle for success and enjoy the epic hunts when you get them. I missed the first draw this year but I did enough research on the leftover units, pulled a tag and I think I may have a pretty good hunt lined up. And if...
Just remember if those tags are leftover at the 3rd draw they are either oversold or hard to get at the animals. Personally I'd save my money for buying a $80 doe tag if you're a nr and go shoot two in Wyoming if there is any left. But speaking for SD antelope I'd give 49 A or B a shot before...
I've been wanting to go bow hunting goats for several years now and I finally got a chance to sneak away for the weekend and try it. I had a rifle tag in the SD badlands last year and was successful so I decided to head there again. Was the most frustrating and exciting hunt of my life. And now...
