Boy they brought up a lot of stuff and didn't explain much. I might be interested in 60min if they spent the entire episode explaining and showing one subject instead of craming multiple stories into one show, and not doing justice on any or them.

Tape the whole front half of the stock off except the crack, you'll want to massage some epoxy as far down into the crack as you can, set up a jug to squeeze it back where it belongs. Depending on the how much of a mess the over run on epoxy causes, will determine if you have to sand and paint...
Three quick points.
I have bulged a barrel while out hunting. Years ago I took a shot at a deer and never hit it with a 7mm mag. sure enough an inch from the muzzle i had a bulge. Had a gunsmith trim it back two inches and the gun would shoot decent again. So it does happen.
