    Elk .... Let's see them!!!

Pretty sure he is just joking @Straight Arrow . Very cool bull your grandson got. I like the crazy ones. It's obviously some sort of prior injury or he injured the antler right at the beginning of growth. Here's my first bull, CO 1st Rifle, opening day (10/15).

    South central wyoming timing?

@Firedude - did you end up going for opening? DM me what unit you drew and I'll help you out if you haven't gone yet and we have the same area. I just got back from the Rawlins area. Killed a great buck at 9am opening morning (9/20). There were still plenty of good bucks running around...

    New Mexico unit 34

Good unit with lots of deer and elk. They have had some CWD in that unit and they have upped the tag count the last couple years. Deer quality in NM isn’t great anywhere, but there are some decent deer in that area. Haven’t hunted 34 myself, but have spent some time there camping and hanging out...

    Lubbock area Dove

I usually have a couple good shoots a year. Real early and then the late season. New Mexico has some good spots for the cost of a $75 license. Unless you are have or are paying for private access around Lubbock, you'll have to at least pay for the $48 public access fee for Texas, so not really...

    Wyoming NR General Elk points

I went general as well. Sitting at 3 points, so I should be good barring something crazy. Trying for 2-3 elk tags this year. Wyoming is the first that should lock in. Colorado will either be a shoe in for muzzleloader or 2nd rifle depending on when/where I decide to go in WY. And hoping to luck...

    New to the west

If you have a couple hundred bucks to buy points in states that you could actually hunt in the next couple years, I would stick with Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota. SD and MT sell points until the end of September, Wyoming until the end of October. It’s relatively cheap to get points for...

    Whats your 2019 plans

I try to get 1 trip in per month August: hoping for another NM (or NV) Pronghorn Late September/Early October: start with a South Dakota Pronghorn, then swing up to Montana for a 700 Pronghorn tag (1 trip-2 tags). Late October: Utah General Deer, bringing my wife and 3 year old along November...

How many different states and species do you apply for every year

I’m running around 11, with two additional that I have before, but I don’t every year (AK and OR). Mostly applying for tags, sometimes just buying points (depending on earlier draws), and buying raffle tickets. AK - I don’t apply every year, only when I am trying to plan a trip (applied once...

    How to Euro Pronghorn?

Wilm1313, Are you just putting the head directly in the water bath? Can you post some pictures of your setup? Do you not have problems with debris from the head getting into the immersion circulator itself? My sous vide that i run is more like a crock pot, just a self contained vessel that...

    How to Euro Pronghorn?

With it dried up, you’ll need to boil it a bit longer. Assuming the head is skinned and trimmed as much as possible already... Get a pot big enough that you can lay the skull on its side. Concentrate on one horn at a time. I’d keep it in a solid low boil for 15 minutes. The sheath should pop...

    Cooler Size

I used a 120 with 1qt water bottles filled with ice extended gel (12-16 of them) and got my quartered New Mexico buck, head, and full skin (nose to tail) and was still able to put some additional ice in there and still close it up.

    How tall is he?

Y’all enough to ground check. I would guess 15” straight line off his head (no curve taken into account).

    SilencerCo Supressors

I’ve hunted with a guy and know several others with the harvester, everyone seems happy with them. I went with the Dead Air Sandman TI, direct thread. It will be used on my 6.5CM and 300WM. Should be getting my stamp back any day now.

    Preserving antelope hide

If you’re going to be a few days from home, I would find a taxidermist local to where you’ll be hunting and drop it off with them. I did this on my Utah hunt two years ago. I killed first afternoon and planned on fly fishing for a few days, so didn’t want to chance ruining the hide or meat...
