It looks like there are "exotics" on public land in Texas.......

I drew an archery deer hunt last fall at Kickapoo Caverns SP with the intention of hunting exotics. There were many axis deer, feral sheep goats and hogs, Aoudad, as well as a couple nilgai. Fallow sheds had been found but no fallow deer were ever seen. It was a tough hunt. I ended up killing...

    Turkey calling question

Turkeys are lazy. I’ve heard that from my grandpa since i can remember, they don’t like crossing any kind of obstacle if they don’t have to. They hang up over the stupidest things, but in my experience right off the roost is the best time to try that. No I don’t believe turkeys are lazy, but...

    Pronghorn European Mount

I ordered a skull hanger off taxidermist wood shop and was very happy with it. I like how it doesn’t show any of the hanger behind the mount.

    Another first pronghorn thread

I appreciate the help. I don’t mind to walk and doable is good enough for me. I’d rather do this and learn a thing or two before I get selective in a better unit.

    Another first pronghorn thread

I realize this is not a slam dunk unit. I just kept reading posts about the lack of access, followed up with a statement about the whole group tagging out the first day. I couldn’t figure out the disconnect. Also, is it better to show up opening day and fight the crowd? Or wait until the...

    Another first pronghorn thread

Never hunted pronghorn, but the satellite maps of those areas look like all the areas in the harder to draw units. I’ll definitely look into that free trial.

    Another first pronghorn thread

I’m planning my first pronghorn hunt in WY. I’ve done quite a bit of research, but still have a few questions. I am looking into area 26 as I am a nonresident and would like to draw second choice tag and save a point. Obviously public access is an issue. I have hunted public out of state...

    Recommendations on a turkey choke?

I appreciate the recommendations. I’ve never used anything more than the factory full chokes, but I am headed to FL in March to hunt osceolas and it seemed like a good excuse to get a turkey choke.

    Recommendations on a turkey choke?

I’m looking to purchase a turkey choke and would like to know if anybody has any opinions on chokes you’ve owned or tried. I generally shoot Winchester long beard 3.5” #5s. I own both Kick’s and Carlson waterfowl chokes and like both. I may be splitting hairs, just like to do my research and buy...

Primates developed CWD after consuming CWD infected cervid meat

In recent years we have started genetic testing domestic sheep for scrapie susceptibility. Domestic sheep are being bred for resistance to scrapie. It is likely that there is a similar genetic susceptibility/resistance in other species as well, cattle, deer, humans, etc. This could be part of...

Primates developed CWD after consuming CWD infected cervid meat

Any prion desease can have a quick onset after exposure or take years to incubate before showing signs. I'm a large animal veterinarian in Oklahoma. You all are right about there being a serious lack of knowledge about the zoonotic capabilities of these diseases. They are very well understood...

    Florida General Gun Quota

That late in the year, Im assuming the best strategy is to hunt bottlenecks and food sources. What kind of food sources will the deer be hitting that late in the year? Does the preserve plant areas or do they rely on natural sources? Thanks for all the replies.

    Florida General Gun Quota

I am actually from Oklahoma. I have put in for Sambar for a few years now. This was my first time applying for any other hunts. I really enjoy hunting in new areas so I am really looking forward to it.

    Florida General Gun Quota

I stumbled across the Florida quota hunts while applying for Sambar deer earlier this summer. It was my first time applying and I thought, well why not. I received an email today and I actually drew a quota general gun permit for Babcock ranch preserve 12/8-12/10. Any Florida hunters here...

Meat Debate at Work -- is it fresh?

Never frozen beef is great--almost as good as the grass-fed/grain-free tomatoes I am currently growing. You could sell most of the public a dog turd if you called it non-GMO, organic, gluten free, black angus steak.

    American Hunter Coyote article

A buddy of mine mentioned that I should try that. Last weekend, I blew a dominant female howl for a few minutes followed by pup in distress. This coyote came in at a dead run. Also, I have had luck bringing in pressured coyotes by starting out with a woodpecker in distress, squirrel, something...

    Arizona Goulds

I had decided to buy a turkey point this year since I am already buying other points in Arizona. I was doing some research and came across this site that says you can accumulate 2 points per year for turkey in Arizona. One for being unsuccessful in the draw and one purchased later in the year...

37+ bighorn sheep have died in a pneumonia outbreak at Montana's National Bison Range

I agree with you. Just pointing out that there is a huge demand and that demand will likely keep growing.

37+ bighorn sheep have died in a pneumonia outbreak at Montana's National Bison Range

Pretty much everybody in the world but us eats sheep regularly. Muslims, Jews, Asians, caribbeans, you name it. There's a huge demand and pretty decent money in it. The US imports more mutton than we produce.
