    MT 216 sheep

It won’t be as hard as you think. Hunt the northern most drainage during the rut and you can kill them with a rock. I have archery hunted the unit twice for ewes. Nice area! Good luck!!

    MT 380-20 Tag

Too funny!! +1 on hunting archery. Only unit in the state where the bulls still bugle like the hoochie mama never existed. Never say die if you dont connect. Someone kills a toad in the foothills late season every single year. I would guess as many die late as early but the archery hunt...

    Spring bear in Montana

This is where I would go early. I went to Idaho over the weekend and the farther west you get the less snow and more green grass. The Fisher area looked huntable

    Breaks

Haha. You are older then you think. 50 years is a blink of the eye... 1968 was 50 years ago. Elk were transplated into the Breaks out of Yellowstone Park in the early 1950’s The first tags were drawn out of a hat at the Winnett Bar. I always remember that because the guy that told me about...

Huh?... Yeah I bet squirel is just dieing to hang with you... Some day you will find a negative lil troll just like you and then you will have a friend... 2 dinkshootin internet wardens with super cool signature lines. Oh the fun. All for banning shed hunting last year?? Brillant

    4 consecutive years

Very cool - thanks for sharing. I watched a kid kill a buck in a limited draw area one year. I had filmed the buck numerous times and had his sheds from the previous year. I asked him and his Dad if they wanted some of the pictures of the kids first LE deer. They said nah lol. To each their own.

    The last legal one.

If they interogate the dog you are toast. By walking into that sheds scent cone, you have attempted to locate. Where is dink when I need him. Nothing but chalk and chewed up bones from here on out. Couple clueless, squeaky wheels can ruin it for all. Enjoy Edit: PM me if you are willing...

    Montana Deer Permit - 455 vs. 270

The 455 bull tag is better then 339 top end quality imo. I would not do it without horses. No doubt the deer tag is fun but you veterans will be disappointed in the top end quality. The fwp range manager, Chuck, who is first in and last out every year told me I was crazy to pass up the buck...

    Montana Deer Permit - 455 vs. 270

Agree - each to their own. What a buck greenhorn! Winterkill - yes, that buck moved into that area from the Sterling or Sieben ranch. It is the winterrange for those critters. Great area to hunt deadheads but so busy during hunting season. Idk Unit 455 is very small and very, very packed with...

    Montana Deer Permit - 455 vs. 270

Scored in the dark by a couple uber excited dudes. Not sure I could see 140 or 170 in those. The claimed 170 was the needle in the haystack I spoke of. Prior to 2016, the last smoker whitetail was taken out of the upper camp in 2012. PIG. The claimed 140 buck looked just like jls in this post...

    Montana Deer Permit - 455 vs. 270

Unit 270 without a doubt. Most mature whitetails in 455 run about 110-130. The two in this post are very representative of what most will find. About every fourth year a toad whitetail shows up but they are the needle in the haystack.

    Mummy bag and bivy sack

You backpack hunt with a 7+ pound bag that doesn’t compress? And what do you use for a sleeping pad if going the BA route? The OP asked for a super light set up and a roomy bag? If you are spending more then a week in it buy something designed for the job. Be careful on ultralight- high quality...

    SE Montana winter kill

Exactly what came to my mind. We had elk get wiped out by a train the last time this happened. Good explanation above. Wyoming distinguishes between private land / public land harvest. We need private land doe tags. Doe tags are great where carrying capacity is an issue. We have zero problem...

    Spring bear suggestions

The extra days drive would put you in a much better bear area. You could spend 3 days just finding a bear in MT.
