Well, I haven’t kept this thread updated very well, but...I’m flying out tomorrow. Super pumped!
The first group that was out there (host’s family) said the moose rut is just kicking into gear. They had moose around them most days.
They also said the caribou were all over a week ago, but a...
Note to self: search before you post. I see a similar thread was just opened yesterday on backcountry books. Looks like some good recommendations there.
I’ll be in Alaska this fall for a 10-day moose/caribou hunt. I’m counting on a few days of bad weather and am looking for book recommendations to make the rain days go by faster. Paperback is a must and outdoor-related is a plus. Thanks in advance.
We're going to be flying in to our hunting spot, so weight is something we have to watch closely. I've switched over to havalon knives for midwest whitetail simply because they are so handy. I've broken down a caribou before with one and didn't feel the need for a stouter blade, but I have no...
I've gotten quite a few pm's and insight from a number of members - thank you. It sounds like I might want to focus on my "bonus" tag a bit more than I anticipated.
I'm counting on around 10+ days of hunting at the moment. Doubling up would be a push, but not out of the question. There are four other guys in camp and I'm the only one with a caribou tag. We'll see how many moose tags get filled and what time that leaves for the caribou.
Well, I had a diy Alaska moose trip planned in 2018. My buddy (Alaska resident) who is organizing the trip recommended I put in for a caribou tag. I was all about potentially turning it into a multi-species hunt, but was hesitant to throw down the cost of a non-res hunting license ($165 if I...
Do you need to have a machinist or gun smith bore out your breach plug to make this work? I've heard the recommendation before, but haven't wanted to go down the machining route.
I'm funding a fall trip so I need to clean out some extra gear. All prices are tyd in the lower 48 and PayPal friends/family or you cover fees. I can send pictures via email or text to anyone interested. [email protected]. poms
Alaska Guide Creations bino pouch - I believe this is the...
I’ve had one for a few seasons. It’s solid and I do like that you can lock your arrow in place, but there is probably a better value out there. I’m relatively close to you if you want to see it in action.
I have two luxurylite’s, a medium and large, and they are great. My back usually acted up on camping trips, until I bought these. Word of caution, use a good r-value pad. I find sleeping on a cot to be colder than the ground. If you use an appropriate pad, you’re fine, but if you try to cut...
I’m giving the Hoffman double insulated mountaineer pac boots a try. They’ll be too warm to constantly walk around in, but my main need is treestand hunting for whitetail. Two hours is a long time to have frozen feet. They’ll be a Christmas present from my wife. I wish she spoon-fed me...
Another vote for the Ken Onion Work Sharp for kitchen knives, but I switched to replaceable blades for field dressing. It’s just too handy, doesn’t cost all that much, assures a sharp knife throughout the job, and saves me time, which is what I have the least of at the moment.
