    New to Muzzleloading

I've had great luck with the 1:48 twist and big conicals. In a CVA Hawken, recoil will be very brutal with that brass butt plate. I'd highly suggest you rethink this madness. Even 90gr T7 is going to hurt like hell. Want to shoot cheap? 250 - 320gr Lee R.E.A.L bullet mold, cast your own and...

    WARNING! Lyman RECALL!

Heads up guys! Check the serial number on your Lyman rifle/pistol. Lyman has issues a recall for breech separation issues. If you bought one early last year, factory or kit, you need to check the serial number. DO NOT SHOOT until you make sure your Lyman muzzleloader is safe.

    New muzzleloader cleaning tips

i'd stay away from hot water, it causes flash rust. I've always used birchwood casey gun scrubber and then bore scrubber. You can even use carb cleaner on the patch and it will remove the stuff from inside the bore.

    BH 209 & Proper Cleaning

Did you clean the breech plug with the drill bit? That o ring I know is a must in a traditions break action. I've shot 60lbs of the stuff over the years, with a wide variety of muzzleloaders, so I got some experience.

    BH 209 & Proper Cleaning

I didn't read about you cleaning the breech plug with a 1/8" drill bit in that Traditions. #2, I did not see mention what primers you used. Winchester W209, CCI 209M, Federal 209A primers are the best for BH209. Also, Im betting your primers are dirty when removed after firing ( when it...

    Which projectile for elk

With good shot placement, even a simple 177gr patched round ball does the job. I used 70gr 3fg Goex and a round ball for this guy. Best eating ever!

    Rendezvous buy - Loading Block

I bought a few of these at the last Santa Fe Trail Rendezvous in June '17 The guy basically carves out half of the loading block so theres less stress on the patched ball when loading the block up. Plus, the balls hang out further and easily drop into the bore where you then use your short...

    Idaho black powder

I'd personally would go with traditional sidelock. If you have to shoot black powder and musket caps, why not go the honest way?

    Powder Reccomendations

I'd go with real black powder, you'll have a much more reliable ignition source rather than the sub powders. Goex, Olde Eynsford, both excellent powders.

The Patched Round Ball Challenge Hunt

I stood by my plan and went full .50cal patched round ball this season! I heard a lot of " Don't use that!" You'll wound it!" "That ball isn't made for big game" all the typical brain washed fubar where some think you need plastic, SS, scoped and high priced pretty shaped bullets in order to...
