Was fortunate enough to head to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico to pursue the Ocellated turkey and complete my World Slam. What a truly amazing bird they are. Travel was a breeze, no issues. Food and accommodations were second to none. Hunting in 100 degree weather was new to me.
Been a few years since I've taken a deer with archery gear here in Illinois. This year, like previous years I didn't have high expectations. I was spending quite a bit of time helping friends set up blinds, treestands and trail cameras in hopes of helping them fill their tags. With most of...
Little behind on this, catching up with work after a trip takes a bit and Illinois archery deer season in the rut (another story to come). I finally have time for a quick recap.
This has become an annual trip now, with my parents and my brother all living in Colorado now it has become a hunting...
With all the current crap going on what better way to be socially distant than get out and turkey hunt. I have a slight addiction when it comes to turkey hunting, this year was no different than previous years. 6 tags, 3 states, and 5 weeks to hunt, let the fun begin.
2nd Season in Illinois...
Once again made the yearly trek from Illinois to Colorado to see the family and do some hunting, and Colorado didn't disappoint.
4 guys, 3 with tags and one that just wanted to hike and carry stuff off the mountain. 3 cow elk tags and two of us picked up bear tags just in case... hind sight...
Made what has become a yearly trip to Colorado in the fall to hunt with my brother and a good friend. 2 cow tags and 1 bull tag, managed to fill all three by the last day. I'll only post mine in case the other two are in some kind of witness protection program :p
Also got to watch this guy...
Second trip to Wyoming hunting these critters, first time with a buck tag in my pocket. Previous lesson learned - Wyoming mud is like no other - well that lesson carried true on this trip also but was worth it in the end.
Hiked in to a public piece I thought would be overlooked after looking at...
This lovely spring weather in Illinois/Wisconsin sure made turkey hunting harder than it needed to be but still managed to fill 3 tags.
First bird was a beat up old ugly sucker missing most his tail feathers and appeared to have part of his beard frozen off.
Couple weeks later ventured out...
Spring turkey season is by far my favorite time of the year, I openly admit I am addicted to turkey hunting to the point I may need a support group. This year was no exception either, having 5 tags in 4 different states in my pocket I knew it was going to be busy, hectic, and of course fun! Tag...
Not much to the story... setting up for a good ol Midwestern deer drive when this guy came out following his lady friends, stopped 40 yards broadside.
As he lay
Biggest bodied deer I've ever taken
Not much of a story to this one.
Last day of muzzleloader season yesterday.
Get out of truck and start walking to spot I wanted to hunt.
Accidently jumped this deer.
He runs.
I grunt.
He stops.
I shoot..
Take a few quick pictures. (Removed required orange clothing for pictures)
I call two...
Well with her busy school, sports, and social schedule we had a whopping 5 hours to make this hunt happen. No pressure right...
Saturday morning found us in a spot I had been seeing deer lately and gave us the best chance of some action, well the deer must have known the tight schedule...
After a successful antelope hunt in Wyoming http://onyourownadventures.com/hunttalk/showthread.php?t=256782, we were on our way to Colorado for a 2nd season rifle elk hunt. This is by no means a trophy hunt, my buddy and i both drew cow tags for this unit. This trip was about learning the...
A buddy and I had a second season Colorado Elk hunt planned and decided that we might as well grab a couple over the counter doe tags in Wyoming and give Antelope a try while we were out there.
We picked a unit that had a lot of leftover tags and not much public access...geniuses we are.
We...
Went into this season knowing it was going to be a tough weekend between the weather and schedule. Saturday was going to be the only day my oldest daughter could hunt due to a softball tournament starting Saturday afternoon and going through Sunday.
Day 1. We got out early Saturday morning...
To combat some of the cabin fever between hunting seasons i decided to try and build a pedestal for a strutting turkey i have since i felt the cheap piece of foam he was mounted to wasn't doing him any justice.
I decided since i had a pile of barn boards laying around from the barn i removed...
It's been quite the first year hunting for my 13 year old daughter. It started in the spring chasing turkeys as seen here: http://onyourownadventures.com/hunttalk/showthread.php?t=250500
Then this fall during archery season she hints that she would like to try and harvest a deer. After some...
When i was applying for my Illinois spring turkey permit this year my 13 year old daughter says "Dad i would like to try and shoot one too". Since she has never showed any interest in hunting before i gladly accepted the challenge and applied for one for her also. Next we had to go through all...
Two less wolves, doesn't look like it will end well for the shooters
