I live out East but LOVE archery hunting elk. Lots of good points here. Especially when you compare hunting whitetails to hunting teh Rockies. The hardest thing for me to get used to was the fact that you do NOT have to bury yourself in cover.........but rather stay in front of it as pointed out...
I have posted these pictures before in the past but here they are again. This is a bull that was taken here in PA during the 2003 elk season. It isa very massive non typical.
There are several that I have seen still running around that are bigger than this. I have tried to get a tag every...
I am at 205 now. I should be at 190 by HUnting season. July is teh month I turn up the running program. I have a 5 mileloop that I do daily..........mostly up hill. It is a GREAT fat burner! :D
I have (2) 300 mag rifles. The first one is a Ruger 77 MArk II topped with a 3.5-10x Leupold VX-III. A real acurate gun that shoots just uder 1" at 100 yards with several factory loads. The other is a Weatherby MArk V in 300 WBY. I picked it up used for about $700 a few years back. While I do...
I have used electrical tape for years. Qicker to put on than the other two methods. No change in point of impact, keeps water & debris out. Carry a roll in your pocket to replace after the shot (If it is a miss LOL)
It is Cole with Crazy Horse. How big was your bull last year? I know Cole was pretty happy with this bull........although he did not smile to much in the photo LOL
My buddy Jeff just got back from Colorado the other day from his guided ML hunt in Colorado. He scored on a Real nice Buullll A public land bull at that! I guess sometimes it pays to get a guide LOL

PA Mt Man,
The elk hunt was great. We were into elk everyday........I am yalking about real nice 6x6 animals. I passed several shots (20-30 yards) on 4x4s and some rag horn 5x5s. When you are seeing the big boys it is hard to shoot the little ones :D Anyway, we did not come home with any elk...
Here are the offical stats on the Ram:
From the Division of Wildlife office in Durango today where the ram was measured and plugged. Here are the results:

We had a friend in our archery elk camp who drew a Colorado Bighorn tag. After many miles, many climbs & some very hard work glassing and hunting he took this fine ram
Here he is shortly after the kill
My buddy John & I take a break from our elk hunt to climb up & help...

If I can draw the mulie tag I will try for him next year. There were LOTS of real good bucks up there but this one was a heart stopper!! :D
It is rugged country & all the game....elk, deer & especially sheep seem to like that top of the world feeling LOL

Just got back from my Archery elk hunt. No elk this year :( But we had a great time. My buddy had a sheep tag & took a nice ram. (story & pics later)
I ran into this pig of a mulie during a stalk on a 5x6 bull at treeline. What a great buck. He was worth watching and taking pictures of. He...
I'll be flying out for my self guided archery elk hunt in Colorado Wednesday of this week!! :D I can't wait to get back to the Rockies.
I also applied for a PA elk tag..........we have HUGE bulls but the odds of getting a tag are great. It would be a real long shot but still I...
I'll be hunting in PA for bear again this fall. We only have a 3 day season & baiting is not legal so it is ALL BEAR DRIVES ALL DAY LOL! Anyway, looks like we have some more monsters where I hunt in Venango County. Hopefully I can get one of those 600-700 ponders to show you guys!
