Hunt Talk

I was able to take a peak on north east end between Huntington and Orangeville to see if something was still there. Up on the outer rim. A lot of private land, but saw a herd of cows still in there on the public side.

On the map, I liked the section north east of east mountain to Crandall canyon and then south. Cuz it looks like there aren't a lot of roads. I was also thinking about the Gentry Mountain area. I heard from Stefan White @ buxnbullz. He mentioned farther north east close to Helper and Price as well.

I like/prefer hiking and getting away from roads and people, but maybe with the LE tag I don't need to worry about that much. Anyway, was hoping you might have some tips/info you wouldn't mind sharing based on your success last year. I appreciate anything your willing to share. My email is [email protected] if that works better. Thanks again!

I stayed in Helper and ventured some west of there and saw some elk, but there was too many guys glassing and seemed like to many roads. I ended up spending 90% of my hunt on 1 road as I saw over 53 bulls and was able to find a area that required some hiking to get to elk and not a soul was hiking on my hunt, had the whole area to myself.

I hunted the very north end of the unit and turned off highway on to Dairy fork road and hunted that burn in there. Crazy amount of elk.

Thanks! A few years ago I drove down the other side on Skyline to US 6 and the thought crossed my mind to look there if I ever got an elk tag. But I hadn't even considered now that I have.

But putting two and two together, the times I've driven 89 at night I've always seen Elk crossing the road between Birdseye and Thistle. Like without fail (wife's family is from Fairview). Appreciate the reply and info! I'll shoot you a message this fall just to let you know how it goes.

Its a hard hunt to plan for as I was told some years you can drive the skyline on late hunt and others you cannot. There was 25" 2 mi up skyline on my hunt. I saw a hunt in 2020 where it was in the 60's on the late hunt

If you follow the Dairy fork you will see "Side canyon" a intersection in the road it turns into 0070 road or Lake fork road. That road is gated and nobody walked it. If you look at map there above that gated road is " Sky high trail" you need a sxs or atv to get up there, but its well worth going to the top and glassing you can see forever

I would glass that burn across lake fork creek and mark bulls on map, then zip down to the lake fork gate and walk down then hike up.

That gated road if you walk a mile down to coffee pot creek there is a good trail going up and you will run into a water tank. At that tank there is small trail in that draw heading north west and will tak you up on top of coffee pot ridge. Was a pretty nice hike and got you right in on lots of bulls in there
