Semi Custom 700

Scotland
Welcome aboard Alan. I have 42 cousins that live in Armadale Scotland and I plan on heading over there someday for a visit and maybe get in a hunt. In Texas we mainly hunt whitetail deer and wild hogs and I head up into the mountains of Colorado every year to hunt elk and mule deer on horse back. -

Cost of processing
In Austin we have an old German meat market that will process the deer for around $90.00 which includes vacuum sealing. You pay extra for the fat to add to the ground and I like the jalapeno cheese sausage which will add another $3.00 per pound and I usually get around 15 lbs. per whitetail...- SoTex

Man, I've Been Waiting For This!
After taking my 2015 Wyoming Bull we found this hidden lake where the cutthroat's had never seen a lure. Had cutthroat trout and elk tenderloin for dinner and finished it off with a fine 12 year whiskey by the fire. Can't wait for the upcoming season. Congrats on the cool video.- SoTex

Gear advice from experienced elk hunters
I've never worried about bears while hunting in Colorado but when I hunted Northwest Wyoming I had bear spray and a pistol. A guy was killed by a grizzly less than 50 miles from my spike camp 2 weeks before my 2015 hunt. My advise would be to put in the miles and hunt as far from the... -

2016 Elk Hunt

Wall Tent?
We used the JP medium tent on our 2015 Wyoming hunt. The pros were it is very roomy and holds warmth due to the heavy canvas. The cons were its very very heavy, bulky, and takes up a lot of space. -

Wall Tent?
I have the 12x12 Alanak and my buddy has the 12x20 Alanak and both are excellent. The 12x12 is perfect for two grown men on cots with gear with a wood stove. Three can work but not quite as comfortable. The 12x20 is perfect for 4 hunters with cots and gear but it is much heavier and you need... -

Tips for a backpack newbie
I didn't kill my first bull until my third DIY hunt and I concur with tylerhouston in making sure you are in the most productive area the first and last 30 of light. Enjoy the hunt, adventure, and scenery and eventually an elk will hit the ground. -

The Brits return to Montana.
