Question on the Colorado Ranching for Wildlife Program

When I lived in CO I loved the RFW cow hunts. Great fun with my wife. Would love to be a resident again to get my kids out on a good starter hunt. Also the habitat work done on that ranch was amazing. We saw a huge variety of game birds, bears, rabbits, deer, elk, bears etc.

What a way to start the wisconsin first ever elk hunt

Wisconsin has many ethically challenged hunters. Maybe that’s true everywhere but I’ve seen some ugly stuff on public land. Tons of trespassing on private too. My personal favorite is watching the chat boards after the seasons close. It’s either “look at my huge buck I’m the best hunter...

    Family Trip? 2019

Took my kids along on a doe hunt and gave them a few hours at the Dinosaur Museum at the University in Laramie. They loved it and still talk about those Dino’s. I think they were 6 & 4 back then. Antelope hunting is pure fun. No need for long hours or brutal pack outs. And...if you do blow a...

    Supplements? Worth it or not?

I'm a back to basics guy... no supplements at all. Wild meat, fish, berries, fowl, big garden now too and plenty of wild mushrooms. I figure we didn't evolve eating processed and marketed crapola. Give me something REAL.

    Corned Elk Hash

One more vote for Hank Shaw's Corning recipe. This recipe is also my absolute favorite treatment for goose breast. My kids now beg me to hunt geese. Semi-pro tip... once your corned meat is sufficiently boiled...toss it on a smoker for 45 minutes. Winner winner Saint Patrick's day dinner

    Hello from Jones in Colorado

Hey Jones - Can’t help you with the land owner piece...but for what it’s worth I just went through the same learning process in CO. What ended up turning some tags into actual chops was the ranching for wildlife program. If you are willing to start by hunting antlerless...these hunts can be...
