Late season I always like to predator call them in. You don't need to sound perfect, just enough to get the bear curious and get a shot. Watch your downwind, as they will circle you. I talk about this on the Rich Outdoors, Bear Hunting Podcast, EXO Hunting Backcountry and Living...
I'm the guy who wrote the books referred to at the top of the thread. I use e-callers sometimes, but I prefer hand calls. They are lighter and cheaper, but to me, more versatile. I have the Inferno by FoxPro, works well.

Its not like coyotes. Bear take longer to come in compared to yotes, at least in my experience. I call bears in all the time, that is my preferred method. You do need to watch your wind like you would yotes though. Ive had bears come in under 5 minutes, but I have had them take over an hour too.
I cant believe they didn't show that cow popping when the bear finally got into it! LOL. Great video. First bear I killed was eating maggots off a cougar killed deer...talk about smelly! That is one happy bear.
