My plan for now is to come hunt during archery season. I will be there the last two weeks of September. I am planning a return trip the last 10 days of the rifle season.
Is there any good meat processing east side of the mountain? The one in White Sulphur could only de bone and quick freeze...
Drew some general big game combo tags this year. Taking my father out and possibly my son this fall. Anyone have any advise on 391 0r 392?
Also looking for road conditions for a stock truck (I have chains).
Will be doing dispersed camping.
Where is the nearest processor that you would...
I have hunted Colorado for many years, I don't any helpful info on these particular units.
The last few years Colorado has gotten bonkers with tags and the archery hunters have been jamming the mountains like a born and raised infomercial. I was there twice last year and September was BUSY. I...
I wouldn't go with out them, we have Garmin AlPHA that can track the other handhelds also. We don't use them to pursue game but to make sure everyone is ok and don't need help getting an animal off the mountain. We turn them on at 9,12,3 and after dark check in. Sometimes the midday you may not...
I have hunted area 15 to the south of you. I have not hunted 14. In 15 the timber is heavy and the pressure is high. Make sure your in good elk country until last legal shooting light, then walk out in the dark. I see to many guys at the pickup as the last few minutes of daylight dwindle. Hunt...
That's your best setup IMO. My gun didn't like Thors. But everyone elses in the group shoots them very well. You wont believe the the penetration you can get from them. I have Killed 3 bulls with 300 or 338 grain powerjunks over 120 of pyrodex select. They work but usually come apart.
I have hunted 15. I hunted it 2001-2006, We went back last year with a muzzy tag. Filled 2of 3 tags.....BUT we got dang darn lucky. We found one pocket of elk and picked the pocket twice. Never saw an elk in any other place. The unit has changed with the Bark beetle. The west side slope didn't...
I hunted this area in 2016. I did see elk , mostly on private lands. Passed a pile of chuck bucks forks and some 15" bucks. Only saw one that I would have shot in 10 days of hard pounding. I covered ALOT of timer in the middle of the little belts. I kept thinking deeper farther and hunt harder...
Well I did a lot of research on big horns. The group is at 8.2 average. It looks as if the success rates are pretty good in 40. I looked into 38 & 39 as well. Everything I read about 38 is its loaded with every kinda of hunter out there And get buried in snow.
I have no experience elk hunting...
