    Black Hills Any Deer.

That makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. I did an archery hunt in the Blackhills, and only saw whitetails. I’d love to kill a muley some day, but am happy whitetail hunting.

    Black Hills Any Deer.

Sorry you missed out on the hunt, that said, I thought the Blackhills deer tags were easier to draw than what this thread suggests. I’ll go back and do some more research, but I’ve got a few points and was thinking about trying this year.

Fun South Dakota Black Hills Hunt

We’ll be whitetail hunting. I read no fires outside of official campgrounds in the South Dakota side. I assume that likely means not much camping outside of campgrounds.

Fun South Dakota Black Hills Hunt

Very nice! I’ll be heading out there for a pre-rut bow hunt with a good friend from college. He’s in Missouri and I’m in Indiana, and this will be the first western hunt for either of us. I’d love to pick someone’s brain on camping spots and thoughts on north v. south. I imagine this will end up...

    Meat Field Care

Sorry if this has been answered already on this thread, but I'm pressed for time. Here in Indiana whitetail land, most of us field dress, but keep the skin on and animal whole. It's going to be upper 70's this weekend, and if I get lucky enough to kill a deer, I'm looking at 2 to 3 hours to...

U.S. supreme Court case - Big decision ahead

While I was disappointed to realize that the Washington State Dept. of Licensing v. Cougar Den, Inc., was not a case about licensing strip clubs focused on older ladies for younger men, it could be a good indicator of where the SCOTUS might land on Herrera. The SCOTUS Blog has a good summary...

New limits on seizures for G&F violations in the future?

Tom Fischer, our solicitor general who argued Timbs to the SCOTUS contended that the state could seize a Bugatti for a speeding violation if it wanted to, and the 8th Amendment wouldn't apply. The on the ground reality is that some police forces have gotten addicted to the revenues from...

SCOTUS Decision with Implications for Enforcement of Regulations

Yesterday, the SCOTUS handed down a decision holding that the excessive fines clause of the 8th applies to the States. Timbs v. Indiana. The fact scenario involved the seizure of a Land Rover from a drug dealer, which leads me to think it will have some implication on the enforcement of...

Great article in Outside by Rinella

It would be a good title if the article was written by a non-hunter. Then it would serve as a self-imposed reflection. But, hopefully the underlying message of outdoor users uniting for a more powerful conservation coalition is not lost. Another great piece of work by Rinella.

Seeking input on a lever gun

Alright firearms folks--I'm primarily a bowhunter in Indiana where public land firearms rules are still pretty strict. Pistol caliber rifles, slug guns, and muzzleloaders are the primary allowances. I drew a state park deer reduction hunt, and cannot use a bow, so this may be my excuse to buy...
