This is all especially damaging for people with 8-22 points where there are very limited options unless you accept you will not catch that tag you have always been chasing and look at tags behind you. Be honest about your Wyoming elk app!
Elk Special for me might increase my odds for a random tag slightly - regular for my brother as he has enough points to draw unless there is more point creep in the Regular than normal. Normally we would both be in Special. Unless Special ultimately gets me a tag two+ early I will move to...- Iowan

Wyoming overall is a great place for resident and non-resident hunters. The worst rule is the wilderness rule. The second negative is the cost of the non-resident moose points and the FACT that anyone with less than 19 points will likely never draw a tag yet non-residents with less than 10...- Iowan

Yukon Dream fulfilled, in pictures.
I could go on our Alaskan moose hunt three times for those prices - no guides or comforts of home but public land, over the counter tags with some giant moose. Public Land and Over the Counter Moose Hunt
My meat arrived today. If you ever go to Alaska moose hunting, bring coolers and bring your meat home as checked baggage - shipping is crazy expensive. Alaska Airlines was fantastic - we had to change flights and they made it simple and no charge. They assigned a person to us to help with guns...- Iowan

New to elk hunting.
I was going to say many of the same things as KB. I would encourage you to check out the success rates on the CO OTC hunts - here is a clue - they are terrible. Frankly, I love that so many newbies hunt CO, it keeps the better spots well better. Another important thing is to build a few points... -
First western hunt suggestion for a 10 y/o
I will try to imagine what I would have wanted at 10 years old knowing what I know now. Take me somewhere that I can catch a bunch of fish (trout) but we can also hear elk bugle and watch them. Had a great hunt. Lots of non-hunter traffic in this unit (I mean lots). Ultimately it did not impact the hunting much. 50 yard shot dead center in the heart (absolutely no luck involved) :) My first archery elk (first archery tag) at 51. Hopefully not my last. My days of sleeping in a tent in... -
