What are your views on grizzly? You’re headed to some thick country, depending on your hunting style I’d recommend Colorado as a back up. If you’re unsuccessful with the bow it’s going to be a lot of busting brush with the rifle. -

Outside opinion here, you might be overthinking this. There are a lot of places elk live . Work on picking one area , take a few scouting trips before season, and give yourself time in season to be successful. Once you figure out 1 area you can apply what you learned to other areas and find... -

Value of winter scouting?
Get out and spend as much time as you can around them. Don’t bump them but you’ll learn a lot between now and hunting season , scout as much as you can.
