New Mexico unit 51 first rifle
They are much lower than normal this year, ive hunted that unit 6 times including this year. They got 15" of snow mid September and the majority of elk moved lower and didnt come back up. Good luck on the hunt. -

Cooper 92

not to be that guy but even using your inflation number and your math the cost of the tag would be half of what you suggested. 1) $1800 + $11,000 = $12,800. 2) $12,800 / 2 = $6,400. 3) $6,400 x 40 = $256,000. This also assumes you don't use any license, build any other points, or draw...- adubs

I was you 8 years ago (I'm 38 now) with the dream of hunting sheep and hopefully multiple times with a strategy of apply, apply, apply...I have continued to follow that approach in every state each year (11 to be exact). Its not hard for me because I buy points or apply for over 50 hunts a year...- adubs

Apparently every unit everywhere sucks
I've been hunting elk on public land since '98 (Im a resident of WI) and all of my research is done online, on the phone, or looking at maps. IMHO elk hunting is really not that difficult if you develop a process for evaluating whats most important to you on a particular hunt and stick to it...
