I'm making an elk roast for my valentine, wondering what kind of reds folks like to pair with their roasts? Although I'm sure he'll be drinking beer..the wine rec is for me.

I like Malbec so that's what I pair with nearly all lean red meat. I rarely spend money on wine and I feel that Kirkland Malbec is actually quite nice. JR Young will definitely have an exact wine pairing and I'd definitely drink whatever he recommends.

This response is really late, but I prefer a smokey Cabernet with red meat. There are a ton of bottles that are really good for under $15/bottle. My favorite is probably 19 Crimes, but anything in that $10-$15 range is usually fairly safe.
