Hello HT,
Talking with a few locals, small game isn't really even considered around Great Falls, MT. I am from the land of grey and fox squirrels galore! Can someone help point me in the direction of some huntable tree rats or rabbits? I have been eyeing some fishing access points near Ulm, MT but am worried its a lost cause due to the MT field guides below. These will be for food so I'm not into prairie dogs or ground squirrels.. unless someone can convince me otherwise.
http://fieldguide.mt.gov/displaySpecies.aspx?family=Sciuridae <== Pretty much shows that I have no hope of anything but ground squirrels around GF.
http://fieldguide.mt.gov/displaySpecies.aspx?family=Leporidae <== Shows that I have some hope in Rabbits. Any help on locations? Should I stick to creek bottoms, grasslands, or sagebrush areas?
Thanks for helping to get some fresh meat!
