While hunting on the ground in the mountains of North GA this past fall I had this large sow with three cubs slip in from behind me. It had rained that morning and the wind was blowing pretty good so I never heard a thing until a twig snapped to my left. Turned my head and she was standing 15’ from me staring a hole right through me. She sent the cubs up a Redoak 20’ away and put on a show for a few minutes. Cool experience.

I have only been bear hunting for a couple of years now, but I am still amazed at how something so big can move so quietly through the woods. We have a 75 lb minimum size requirement, and while her cubs were likely of legal size any sow with a cub at her side is not legal. She was larger than any of the boars I saw this year.
