6.5 Creedmore or 7mm?

Huh, I always thought the 300 wm was superior to the 7mm rem mag. But looks like the 7mm will have less wind drift and drop at long range. Is the 7mm rem mag superior? What is the heaviest bullet one can shoot reliably out of 7mm rem mag?
 
Ok, i'll be the evil a$$ to bring it up...

Even though you've shot to 1,000 yards, it was most likely a target.
I shoot target to 1,000 yards.
But you have to look at the mechanics of it.
No matter what your hunting most hunting bullets don't reliably expand below 1,800 fps.
And you'll want approx 1,200 ft lbs of energy for the "shock" to the animals system for a quick clean kill. (More ft lbs for larger animals)
Hence depending on bullet, and weight even the mighty Rem Mag is capabale out to about 800 yards with the forementioned criteria.

Even with that knowledge i try to keep my hunting shots within 400 yards, even with my Rem Mag.
 
I own both a 7 mag and a 7-08 and have for many years. I find myself carrying the 7 mag 90% of the time since I hunt open country that might offer a shot beyond 300 yards. I am much more confident in the 7 mag at ranges beyond 300. I know what all of the ballistics are on both but sometimes things happen and a few extra foot pounds of energy can be helpful. So if I was picking just one it would have to be the 7 mag.
I shoot factory ammo and can find plenty of non toxic loads for both so ammo availability has not been a problem at the larger retailers.
 
I’m a 6.5 guy now. But I regret jumping on the bandwagon. 7mm bullets are the best available today. I wish I had gone 7-08 and 7 mag to simplify my system.

But nothing wrong with 6.5cm.
 
Ok , since i put in a job application at Weatherby, i suppose i should suggest either the 7mm Weatherby Mag, or the 6.5-300Weatherby.

One of these is a 6.5 140 and one is 7mm 168. Both were started within 50fps of each other and both pulled from elk within 25 yards of each other. Which is which?

Pretty good performance from both. What bullet is that?
I’m gonna guess the one on the left is the 7mm and right is 6.5.
