Did a little squirrel hunting this morning with a couple of old buddies. Had a great time and brought home enough for a meal.

I’ve been wanting to try the Meateater Hasenpfeffer recipe for awhile now. Cleaned the squirrels and put them in the brine.

I’ll update in a few days after the taste test.

I gotta admit I just heard a line from Christmas Vacation about Cousin Eddie and squirrels pop into my head. However, I would gladly give squirrel a try. When's dinner?

Well, tonight was the night to cook up the Squirrel Hasenpfeffer for dinner.
Removed them from the brine.

Then browned them.

Then returned them to the pot with the brine and left to simmer for 1.5 hours.

The finished product. Taste was delicious and the wifey actually loved it. The bones were a bit of a pain even though I thought I removed most of them.

I may need to give that recipe a try! The long, slow cook would probably a better way too cook the 4 old boars I shot Christmas Eve.

Congrats on the fox squirrel. Seems everywhere I hunt I just keep running into greys.
