Rifle Cartridges for Hunting

This is a fun topic. Here are some for my current rifles.

Left to right in the back:
.45-100-550, .45-70-513, .45-70-480, .38-72-260, .38-44-180
.54 patched round ball and 82 grs of Swiss 1.5.

What do the last numbers mean bullet weight?

Yup. Of course, like smokeless cartridges, there are lots of different bullets that I can, and do, put on top of the holy black.

The .45 are more properly referred to by their length, in this case, 2.6" and 2.1" respectively. The .45-100 is sometimes (especially in "The Days of Yore") used to refer to what we more often call the .45-90 or 2.4" case today. The 38-55 is modern dimensions for anyone that cares.

I'm scared to list them all out because I try not to think about how many guns I own.

But here goes....

8x57JR
8x57JI
33 WCF
338 Win Mag
35 Whelen

I feel so inadequate:

.22
.30/30
.308
.270
.300

And I've only purchased one of them, the rest were hand-me-downs during my youth.

I'm in the hunt for a new varmint rifle. Probably go with a 223, but may talk myself into a 22-250... but currently have the following:

22LR
22Mag
243
260
270
280
7 Rem mag
308
30-06
300 win mag
300WSM
325WSM
338-06AI
35 Brown/Whelen
375H&H

Horse traded a number of others in the past and have duplicates of a few. its a sickness, with no cure.

Pretty much a .22, 25-06 and .300 for me. That literally covers everything in North America. I just don't see the point in having dozens of guns. I'll probably get something more suitable for varmints. And yea, I could change bullets in the 25-06 but I'd way rather just have 1 bullet/powder combo worked up for each gun.

(Oliver Twist accent optional)......please sir, would you show us your boolits? (and give us something to reference against the 450 and 577-500!)
