I am going on a 3rd rifle elk hunt and its looking like it is going to be a cold / snowy year.

Right now I have a plethora of gear, but I am not sure that I have a good "system". I have several synthetic base layers in varying weights, cabelas wooltimate jacket (which is cozy but too much weight), cabelas alaskan guide shell type jacket and a kuiu down pro hoodie. I have Sitka Timberline pants and synthetic base layers for bottoms. Darn tough socks and a couple of boot options - Solomons and Danners

I would love to develop a go to layering system of 5-7 pieces for tops and bottoms that keeps me warm in a later season backcountry elk hunt. I would like it to be light weight for packing in. I don't need to waste money, but I am willing to spend to save ounces in my pack and have quality gear to stay dry and comfortable.

What is your ideal system?
