Got lucky and harvested a very old mule deer this morning. He had what I at first thought was sand in his hair, but it was all over his entire body. Seemed like some sort of skin condition. Anyone know what this is?

Only thing that springs to mind is mange, not sure as usually the hair is usually really thinned out.

No close up photos. His hair was pretty thin. Didn't have any of the normal thick winter coat that he should have had this time of the year.
