Snowy Range Blue grouse?

My wife and I will be out in October trying to fill some antelope tags. If we are successful early we are gonna try to get in some blue grouse hunting and fishing. Does anybody have any pointers as far as trail heads or logging roads to try. We will be staying near Laramie. Thanks

They are pretty common. Good luck. The alpine lakes up the Snowy Range scenic byway are great fishing

I've seen grouse in North Gate Canyon, and the fishing there is hard to beat.

Take Sandlake road off 130. When you get up a ways you will see a closed gate on the left side of the road. This trail will get you in Rock Creek Knoll. Go down the trail a mile or so and hunt around those ridges. You'll find grouse.

For some fun brookie and cutt fishing drive to Lewis Lake. Take the trail to Shelf Lakes. You will see some beautiful country.

I've never had much luck fishing for Blue Grouse!

FYI, the correct common name for the grouse of the Snowy Range is Dusky Grouse. The bird formerly known as Blue Grouse was split into two species, Dusky Grouse and Sooty Grouse. Ornithologists are continually investigating and adjusting the taxonomy of birds. See:
