300 wsm loads

I’m going to start reloading for my Tikka 300 wsm for elk and mule deer. I’ll be using Barnes 175 or 200 Lrx bullets. Been reading that R17 seems to be the go to powder for the 300 wsm. Anyone have any experience with the rounds and powder combo?
Any other recommendations on powder for the rounds?

I don't have experience with that round, but I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't like RL26. I've had great luck with it in several of my rifles from 25-06 to 7 SAUM.

I use RL-17 in mine with 180 gr Accubonds and it works very well.

RL-17, H4350, RL-19, Hunter, and IMR4831 are all about right. I’m not sure if you could go as slow as RL26 or not.

I have used RL 17 and 19 with the Barnes 165 and 180 with good results. Ramshot Hunter also works well. I would go with the 175 out of the Tikka.

Out of all the powders I do have, I don’t have R26 or Hunter.

Why the 175’s over the 200’s? Is it the mag restrictions?

That, and the idea that with barnes you can go lighter with good results. I don't think you gain much with the 200 vs the 175 in the solid copper line in the 300 wsm, especially with Tikka mag restriction and slower twist than other rifles in 300 wsm. Just my 2 cents.

I shoot a Sako in 300 wsm and it likes the Barnes 180 tsx and either RL 17, 19, or Hunter. I reloaded for a friend who has an older Tikka T3 in 300 wsm and the first load we tried with barnes 165s was a winner. I believe about 67 gn of RL 17 was it.

My Sako likes 4350 with a 165-168 gr bonded bullet.

I'm shooting the 175 LRX in my 300wsm with RL-16 and recommend it. RL-16 has better temperature stability than RL-17 but is right in the same burn rate band.

I agree with this, I wouldn't go much heavier than the 175g in a 300wsm with a solid copper bullet, I think 200g would be a little too heavy.

I have loaded for a few buddies with 300wsm and two of them had the tikka t3lites. All shot the best groups with R22 and 180grain accubonds.

I am still testing in my Sako 300 WSM but I am having good luck with 65.5-66.5 gr of IMR 4831 behind 180 gr Accubonds.
