I have not worn any merino base layers. I've always used synthetics. Even on 8-12 day trips wearing the same layers I've not had an issue with stink.
I have worn the merino mid layers and they work as .good as fleece, but not sold on them any more or less.
Everyone has a differing opinion.
I won't be packing any merino in a few weeks chasing sheep.
I will say that I would never by American or Canadian sources wool anything though.

I don’t know you might need to have your sniffer checked. I can’t imagine 8-12 days in a pair of synthetic bases and no odor.
And are you boycotting American sheep because of the disease issue?
