Hi there, recently I have purchased a Wheeler engineering kit that has come with their FAT wrench and have gotten to thinking about properly tightening down the action screws on our rifles. I have read multiple forums that all state different torque ratings. If anyone can help with any of the following firearms it would be much appreciated.

Winchester model 670 (essentially model 70) 30-06 (wood)

Browning A-bolt (first gen) 30-06 (wood)

Savage 220 20ga (synthetic)

Remington 597 .22lr (synthetic)

Thanks.

Generally speaking, due to the size of the screws, and materials which they are applying torque against, i use 30 inch lbs with a caveat.

I've started to tune my actions also. There is an article on Accurate Shooter (accurateshooter.com) that describes this process. And believe me it does work! The article is about doing it with Savage rifles, but have found it works on my Ruger and Mauser also.
