A kilt wouldn't be my choice for hunting, but I think you can make a strong argument that humans were hunting in kilts/skirts/loincloths long before they were hunting in pants...

I had a full pipe and drum core at my wedding, complete with highland dancing, plenty of whiskey AND i wore a kilt with full regalia... but I would not be caught dead in that thing.
