In response to Randy's last Elk Talk here is a link to the interactive map from the National Forest Service. It has some useful layers but it doesn't always load properly, and the page may need to be refreshed.

People are looking for TMP content, which I've not been able to find on that map. Am I missing something?

The FS guy I talked to last year said the dept was eliminating paper and that web map was the new nationwide default. His district updated it every week if there were changes.

The tmp info is gleaned from the "explore" panel in the center of the map. Ohv>50" for example, then click on one of the trails and it will have seasonal closure data. I haven't spent much time with it so I'm not sure how comprehensive it is vs the mvum pdfs.

I've been using it some. You will have to click on the explore icon to get to visible trails and click on each trail to get the open/ close date. My only issues so far is that it takes a fast computer to run it properly. I haven't checked to see if they offer this as a phone app.

This is a pretty nice feature to help speed up unit selections. Between this and Wyoming now showing county roads on their hunt planner, it is making things fairly easy for everyone.

I use GMAP4 which has options with USFS layers, I think the developer just pulls it from GIS files provided by USFS. You switch easily between google earth and topo options on the default map. You can also draw simple lines, but no measuring like google earth as far as I know.

Menu options are on top right hand side. When you select layers that have MVUM roads you can click on them and it will tell you the details from the TMP. It also lists details on trails. If you select too many layers it does slow things down.

I hope it see's some improvement if they are planning to go to this instead of paper. One of the areas I hunt has some big issues with listing roads as closed, others as open and also lacking lots of roads and trails that definitely exist and are legal routes.

It's already hard enough to get people to look at a paper map to figure out which trails and roads are open, how many are really going to look online?
