Had the day off and went to put up the last trail cam for the summer , wanted to get in the woods at sunrise as to increase my chances to see some elk and i was rewarded for my lack of sleeping in on a day off , the elk where everywhere it seemed, I saw around 60 Roosevelt’s this morning in 4 of the 5 clearcuts I went through on the way to my spot , saw 6 bulls in total , the girlfriend tagged along as well, the early birds got the bulls so to speak, it was such an enjoyable morning getting to be close to so many elk , under a 100 yards on some elk and they never knew we we there , just getting to sit and watch them was it’s own reward..... some of the elk busted us first , but with them being in a no pressure season they just looked at us for a long time before moving off , here’s a few pics of the morning

Hell yea, awesome! Thanks for the motivation to get out and hang my trial cameras this weekend :)

Very cool! I often wish I lived in a western state so I could do stuff like this more than just one or two weeks a year.

A couple of more Roosevelt pics from the weekend my hunting buddy John scouted around Saturday evening and sent me a pic of 2 young branch bulls and I was out in the woods today messing around with a predator call trying to get a coyote to come in , no luck on the dogs but found some elk on the way home and watched them for a bit, seeing about a 2 foot tall spike with eye guards made the afternoon trip , though I’d just add the weekends Rosie pics to the thread

Awesome pics thanks for posting!

Your welcome, I’ve decided to just use this post for the whole Roosevelt elk season , summer scouting etc and then my friends bow hunts and my Nov rifle hunt , and just post all our Roosevelt coast range related adventures on one thread , my hunting buddy John and I are in the woods once or twice a week each , or scouting together and sharing info , so it will be fun to just keep trying to take pics of all our critter encounters and keep posting for people to look at up until season and then see if we can fill a tag or 2 , Oregon archery opens August 25th and runs till sept 25 th I believe the there is 2 Rifle season in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of Nov

1st bull of July , finally getting around to posting this pic taken Sunday July 1st , did a 6 or 7 mile mountain bike ride in an area I’m continually adding to my depth of knowledge, learn one chunk of dirt , then learn the next area adjacent, this is a 5 point bull he was with 14 cows and a calf , I crept in to 350 yds took a few pics through my binos with the cell phone then backed out , I love being on the mountain and seeing new country from the ground lvl after looking at it on google earth and seeing all the elevation differences and contours of the land . Exploring the woods is something I have always loved since I was a kid growing up in Alaska

Last evening coming home from a bow shoot at my friend johns place and was about a mile and a half from home and saw a herd of elk feeding into a wheat field , ran home to grab the binos and came back for some pics , the elk hang out here in late spring but have never seen them here in summer , was cool to Rosie’s walking around in a wheat field. ended up being 37 elk , saw 6 spikes around 10 calves , looked like elk day care ! Ha ha , enjoyed getting to watch elk be elk for almost an hour ... Here’s a few pics
