What kinda terrain is typical in this area on the public lands ?

Steep canyons, sage, oak brush. Pines and some aspen higher up.

TERRAIN
Open sagebrush flats and rolling hills, steep canyons, creeks, vast areas of rim rock, natural springs, mesas, plateaus, long ridges, mountains, draws, alkali flats and a portion of the Colorado River.
• 57.2% public land
• Elevations from 5,250-9,035 feet
VEGETATION
Landscape changes as elevation increases. Pinyon/juniper can be found here as well as sagebrush-covered hillsides, gullies and creek choke with oak brush, cottonwoods and willows, irrigated crops, hayfields, aspen, spruce, fir and ponderosa pine.
ACCESS
• Wet weather creates extremely muddy roads
• Four-wheel-drive traction with chains required
Go to Google, Search for De Beque, CO, Change to "Satellite" View,
Click and hold the "Ctrl" Key while moving your mouse around, you will see some great 3D views of the area.

A lot of oil field roads everywhere you go. The roads turn to slick mud with a little bit of moisture.

Almost all the flat bottom lands are private in 32, 22. Which makes access difficult to the flat mesa tops. Check out land ownership here: https://ndismaps.nrel.colostate.edu/index.html?app=HuntingAtlas
