Well its over.... I got to participate in 17 successful hunts this yr so cant complain.....least I wont once I get through the withdrawls.

To finish out the 2018 season I took my son over to eastern MT. I wish fellow member Rat Fink hadn't got the sniffles and canceled but maybe next yr

Sat was a bust due to weather. Sun was much better.

It somehow took two gobble filled setups on the same birds but finally one of the toms cooperated for my son with a 30yd shot.

We drove about a mile to another saddle and I called and got a response from several birds on a bench off on the other side of a canyon. After a nice hike we were set up on the edge of a meadow and my calls got an instant response back. About an hr later 3 jakes and a decent tom were in front of me. I almost didn't get a shot. The group came into 25 yds and the tom got spooky and started to putt and leave with the jakes running shot interference. At about 40 I got a clear shot and 2018 was in the books.

Limited hunting this year. First hunt was during the worst segment of the breeding cycle. The gobblers would hit the ground and vanish.
Last weekend of the season it rained hard for Friday and Saturday, which left me Sunday morning. I tracked a vocal gobbler Saturday night as the weather broke. He picked up a buddy unbeknownst until the next morning. Happily I found the roost in the dark, with two hen-less mature birds. In on a string the final morning.
