So I am just starting to reload. I got all the equipment that I need and am working on setting up my own reloading bench. I have everything I will need except for powder and primers. The calibers that I am interesting in loading for first are 7mm-08, 7mm Rem Mag, and 30-06. I understand that different powders shoot better or worse dependant upon a number of factors with the different calibers. I would like to buy 2 or 3 different powder types and primers to start. Who has any recommendations?

Fed 210 primers for the 708, 215's for the 7mmMag.

RL-19, IMR 4350, H414 for the 708 depending on bullet weight,

7828ssc, RL26 Magpro for the 7mm mag

I don't load for an 06.

If you're only wanting to go with 2-3 powders...I'd recommend IMR4831 for the 7RM and 30/06 and perhaps RL15 for both the 7-08 and 30/06...those 2 will likely cover a lot of reloading country for you in the cartridges you listed, and would leave you one more to try.

I'm partial to CCI 250 mag primers across the board.

H4350 or IMR4350 are both great in the 30-06. They should work well in the 7mm-08. My father really liked H4831SC in his 7mm mag.

Thanks for all the input so far! To answer one question as far as bullet weights go I am going to start with 140's in the 7mm08, 165's in the 7mm Rem Mag, and am open to suggestions for the 30-06 (I have 30 cal bullets from 120-250 grain)

I used to use IMR powders but when I couldn't find what I needed ,I tried the powders from Alliant. I couldn't be happier with their performance. The best part is that they are numbered from fastest burn rate to slowest, as Reloader 15, 19, 22, 25, 26.....etc.
That makes it more simple to go up or down the scale to find what your loading likes, especially for a new to loading person.
I like R 15 and 17 in the 7mm-08. The R17 works well in the 30-06 and the R22 or R26 in the 7mm Mag is the ticket.

I am just starting to load too and started with four that covered the range of the 7 or 8 rifles I was working with (25-06 up to 300 WSM) -- Varget, H4895, H4350 and H4831SC. So far so good.

4451 for 140 gr bullets in the 7-08, rl22 for 165 gr bullets in the 30-06, and h1000 for 168 gr bullets in the 7rm... 4451 will work in the 30-06 as well..

I use IMR 4350 with a 140 gr Sierra BTSP in the 7mm-08 and H4350 with a 150 gr Speer BTSP in the 30-06AI. I also use H4350 with a 165 gr Sierra HPBT and Reloader 19 with a 200 gr Nosler Accubond in the 30-06AI.

Another vote for 4350 of some flavor as a good all-purpose powder.

I've had good results with RL 19 and RL 22 in 3006, but I don't load for a 7mm 08 or 7mm mag. I do load for a 7mm Mauser AI, and RL 17 has been giving excellent results in that. I think it would work in about anything you're loading here as well.

IMR 4350 in my 30-06. No complaints, great powder (although now banned in the UK) I also like RL19 but that is used in my .243
Cheers
Richard

I try to stick to the temp stable powders such as the extreme series and the new enduron series. For those calibers I would start with IMR 4451 and H4831SC. I have had good luck with ramshot hunter behind the 06. For the 7 mag I would also try the IMR enduron 79 something for a slow powder. Couple buddies have had good luck with h1000 in the 7 mag as well.

So I went today and picked up IMR 4350 and H4381SC and CCI 200 AND CCI 250 primers. Thanks for all the advice! I'm going to get my feet wet with these two then I'm sure I'll branch out.

Whats everyones recommendation for a reloading book/manual?

I like Nosler bullets, so I use Nosler's manual. Hodgdon has their load data on the internet. If your 30-06 won't shoot IMR4350 and 165 grain bullets, you should throw it away. Lol

I’d do RL22 or 25 for the 7mm

H4350 for the ‘06

Varget or RL15 for the ‘08

Of course there’s some overlap. 4350 will work in the 7mm with bullets up to 150 grains or so. It will also work in the ‘08 with 140 grainers
