I'm guessing that's up by Seeley Lake. Elk do make it through those tough winters up there. Those ice free creeks make for some good chewing along the edges where the snow meets the creek. Also there's green moss in the water he's eating. The will also eat the most hanging from trees. In 96 the snow was very deep, even deeper than this years. Only about 30% of the game animals made it through the winter that year. Really set back those areas to the point that they just now seemed to be coming back. Hope this winter ends shortly.
 
Bull elk are tough mofos

I’ve found sheds in places I would have never dreamed bulls winter.
 
I'm not a biologist and I am not familiar with elk in the dead of winter, but something about that bull does not look right to me. Maybe just because he had nowhere to go, he just stayed still, but even then, the ice on his face did not look normal to me. Just my 2 cents.

Crazy deep snow. I wish we had some more of it in CO...but not that much ;)
