Some buddies and I are throwing around the idea of a DIY archery elk hunt in this unit come September. As of now all I know about the unit is whats on the GoHunt Insider page. Is this an area where we'll be required to have bear proof camps? Also, is this Grizz country? Based on what I've seen via google, the Helena-Lewis and Clark NF seems to be right on the edge on most distribution maps. Not a deal breaker for us if they are in the area, we just want to be prepared. Thanks!

Food storage orders are in effect. A griz would be rare but not out of the question.

You'll be fairly hard pressed to find a griz in that country. Not saying it's impossible but I would carry a black bear tag before I'd think twice about worrying about griz.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, there is some griz in those mountains. Buddy and I came across a massive scat pile and tracks of a griz I should have took a photo but I was busy hunting :p
