Unusual Trophy !

That's awesome! Have never seen one, but if I do and it comes home with me it's going to the taxidermist.

They are a black color phase (not melanism) of the grey squirrel. We have lots of them around here. I saw one this year with a big white spot on the tail. At first I was like "what the hell is a skunk doing in a tree", then I looked through the bino and it was a squirrel.

We have a few black color phase gray squirrels around. This year I saw one with a white tip to it's tail too...I ohought the same thing as you what the hell is a skunk doing in that tree and that looks like Sylvester the cat. the guys I hunt with didn't believe me but I know what I saw dammit!!!

I'm up in Calgary....

Somehow these Eastern greys were introduced in town, don't know the colour phase of the original escapees.
Now they are everywhere and 95% of them are black.
Always wondered why this dominant selection of the melanistic phase occurred here.

Seems to be an interest in these guys, anyone wanting a Trophy black squirrel hunt can get in touch.
