BHA Rendezvous 2018

I just wanted to verify the rumor that Randy Newberg did in fact take a "DQ Dilly Bar" bribe from the Idaho cook team in the Camp Chef Cook Off. I guess Randy's addiction for DQ really has sunk to that level.

I guess I dont see the issue?

Big Fin would not let a Dilly Bar influence him even one small iota ... however a large Blizzard, heavy on the chocolate, might turn his head slightly askant. Dilly, Dilly.

Man what an awesome event.
Great presenters, amazing food, outstanding companies and gear, incredible stories and an even better organization.

Affirmative. They tried local adult beverages to induce favor from the other judges. They did their homework and knew I cannot drink alcohol. So a Dilly Bar seems like an equivalent bribe.

Great fun and amazing food at the Cook off. Don't know how Randy, Remi, Rinella, JR Young and the rest of the Judges could decide a winner between all of those amazing dishes. Seminars were informative and entertaining. The sold out Night of Story Telling was top notch. Great Job BHA and all those who were able to attend.

I'm so bummed that I didn't get to go. Spent most of the weekend in the desert looking a soil and more soil. We watched some if the live streams when we got back to town. I may have recruited a new to hunting Californian to BHA

Wow, what an awesome event! Can't wait for 2019!! To those who couldnt make it this year, make it happen next year!

I did not know there was an Idaho Bowfishing Association until seeing the T-shirt above. HT research.

Yea there is, and we do 3-4 tournaments every year.... http://www.idahobowfishing.com/tournaments.html and Randy sponsor's our Association here in Idaho, which I thank him alot for doing! If you liked the BHA deal the IBA is about the same except we shoot fish during the day and BBQ/Raffle/Drink in the evenings.

Man, what a great time! Rende was so much fun this year, though I feel its is almost at a tipping point in terms of attendance levels. Last year in Missoula still felt very intimate, this year at times felt more like a industry conference than a gathering. That said, I had a absolute blast. You could feel the excitement in the air.

Talked to Remi Warren a few times, in passing and as a judge for the cook-off. As I expected, the guy seems as down to earth and likeable as he seems on his show and podcasts.

Yvon Chuinard, the founder of Patagonia spoke as part of the "waters roundtable" and during the Filson Story Night and besides sharing stories, spoke in depth on the future of conservation funding. Was very moving. He is a real ally for hunters and anglers.

I shared a conversation with Dr. Karl Malcolm at the airport yesterday while we waited for our flights. It was his first Rende. He was blow away by the level of engagement and the excitement built around the event when compared to other conservation organizations.

The only person I felt sorry for was Steve Rinella. He was one of the judges for the Camp Chef Cook-Off. Its obvious that guy has hit a level of superstardom not experienced before in the hunting community. At least with this group of people. He basically had to be escorted up to the stage to judge, but wasn't able to walk around and speak to the contestants as we prepared our food like the other judges were able to do. I was looking forward to speaking to him, like the teams did with the other judges while my wife and I prepared our dish, but I totally get it.

I know not everyone sees the resemblance; I certainly never did, but I got approached no less than a dozen times by folks wanting to shake my hand thinking I was Land Tawney. This happens so frequently at BHA events that I had to get a hat made! There must be something there though as Land's wife came up to me later and said that she had seen me standing in a crowd, waiting to get a beer and thought to herself "I'm so happy Land has a moment to grab a beer and relax" before realizing it wasn't him.

I had "Hey Not Land Tawney" yelled at me numerous times, even on the plane ride home.

I believe this was agenda item number 24 at the Idaho BHA annual leadership meeting.

I'm sure some version of this photo has been making the rounds, but this pic is definitely my favorite from the Rende. Big Fin and his future hunting buddy, Pancake the Llama!

My wife reads a book to her Kindergarten class called "Llama Llama, Red Pajama" and I have no doubt that this will be on the digital media board while she reads.

We had a fantastic Rendezvous as well. It was the first one for my wife; which also happened to be the first time she had gotten away from the kiddos since our boy was born last October. As a result, we didn't make the HT Grillout, so I am a little bummed I didn't get to meet a few more of you. On a huge plus I converted her into a fly fishing bum, it is gonna cost me some $$, but having her fired up about it is priceless. We got after the fish hard on Friday, and again on Sunday. All the event were great, it was cool seeing 4 guys I knew with films on Friday night, and the campfire stories were all awesome.

We are already looking forward to next year!

We even managed a double on Sunday.

DannyB which flight were you in? We cooked in the second and while we chatted a bit with Renella I agree, he's too big and too good at what he does to enjoy an event like this.

Also, for those that didn't get to go, HT's own Ben Long received a large round of applause after winning the Ted Trueblood Award (I think that was the name) for exceptional communications work informing and inspiring people for the benefit of public lands, waters and wildlife, Land was very choked up while discussing Mr Long and his contributions to conservation.

Thanks Neffa3. I was very sad not to make the Rendezvous this year -- the very first one I've missed! I was honored to receive the Mike Beagle Chairman's Award, for support of BHA and backcountry values. After 13 years on the board, I am very honored and flattered. But the real reward is seeing tens of thousands of hunters and anglers speak out for public lands across the country. That is a very cool thing. Kris Millgate of Tight Lines Media received the Ted Trueblood Award for communications and conservation. BHA will put out a news release about all their awards soon.
