Took the rifle for a walk....

So, Friday the wife and kids decided to engage in Black Friday mayhem.....me not so much. I am not good wife crowds of any kind, let alone a bunch of greedy "things" people. As such, I loaded up the Savage 93 in 17HMR and headed to the Pike NF outside of Woodland Park. First I drove up Rampart Range road onto a FS road near the top. I got out and walk a few ridges. Saw a blue jay, some small finch type birds and one pile of bull skat. After a couple of hours I bugged out of there and headed north on 67 to another portion of the NF I have frequented before. Parked in a pull out and started in. Right away was bad news......there had been a timber sale there with a lot of clearance. Oh well, still gave a walk around. Saw zip there except a few ravens. Since I was up that way I motored up to a friends house to check in on them. The wife used to work down the hall from me at Group and her hubby is a retired CW5 Apache pilot. Great people and always great to be around. For their retirement home they were fortunate to come across 35 acres with a 2600sf log home with NF on 3 sides. They are such good folks it is ALMOST hard to be jealous They had the fam in for Thanksgiving along with the accompanying 6 Labs. Shot the bull for about a hour before I loaded up and headed home. No animals to be seen or had but a VERY good day.

That's mostly what I do these days too, take the rifle/shotgun for a walk. Always bring the dog too, my best friend.

Took the 16 gauge, and like Hunts, (one of my two) best friends for a walk. She's used to using her nose to find small and medium sized birds.
Her eyes found some great big birds - sensory overload.
A small rodeo ensued.....
