4 wheel drive issue

I'm hoping someone here can give me a bit of advise. I'm having an issue with the 4 wheel drive on my 05 f150. When I flip it in to 4 high, I can hear the gear box engage but it doesn't seem to actually be in 4 wheel. I was parked on a sheet of ice and the back wheels would turn but the front did not. Does anyone know what the issue could be? Trucks are the weak spot on my man card so I don't know where to start.

Make sure the drive shaft from the gear box to the front hub is still intact. See if it will engage in 4 low. Maybe problem in gearbox and or front hub ?

I have an 01 & think the electric switches can be off at times.
Engaging under load(driving @ low speed) is questionable. Made a bad noise the one time I did it.
The other day it seemed to stay engaged too long, as I drove off the dirt onto pavement.
I switch before I start up now & stop before I disengage. I do know you need to do the reverse deal to disengage from low.
I will look at this issue in F-150 online forum.
Nothing like my old Ford 4x w/Warn hubs or my 1st Toyota w/same.
My Tacoma has always worked smoothly on the fly underload or not.

Could be as simple as a vacuum line on the 4 wheel drive actuator or solenoid.
The lines can be damaged or get pulled off when driving through brush.
Hopefully it's an easy fix for you.
