An interesting article about the plight of moose on Minnesota.

It makes perfect sense to me. It seems after a couple tough winters that thin the deer population, the moose stabilize. After the record numbers of deer we saw in the 2000-2010 years, the moose populations plummeted. No doubt there are other factors, but it's nice to see some progress in solving this riddle.

They seem to coexist fairly well here. Wonder if the parasites are only found up north. Seems thinning the wolves out wouldn't hurt either. Are they managing the wolves there?

I wonder if wolf predation was considered a disease, would it be blamed for the dive in the moose population?

No doubt wolves are A factor, but I don’t see them being THE factor. Minnesota has always had wolves in our moose range. They never disappeared. We’ve never seen a density of deer like we did 2000-2010, though.
