gloves

I've worn mittens for decades to keep my hands warm and they are easier for me to take off quickly if I want to shoot because I don't care for anything on my hands/fingers when I'm about to shoot any rifle.

Exactly. Layers! Wool liners other thin gloves, and then just pull off the mittens when you temporarily need the dexterity of fingers. With my small hands, I also have a difficult time finding warm work gloves for snoveling or using the snowblower. I think these over knitted wool gloves with a chemical warmer when needed be great.

Besides, with layers I can swap out for a dry pair of liners. Staying dry is half the battle of staying warm when you're active.

I'm trying a pair of High Plains Sheep skin mittens made in East Helena Montana and a Sheep skin "blizzard hat". So far I'm impressed with their warmth. For snowmobiling I wear some Cabalas Gore tex insulated gloves. They are warm and waterproof but bulky.
