Disclaimer as to photos- Some of you may have issues in that we never pose animals for photo ops. It is just something we never do.

Day 1 was spent setting up camp, cutting firewood and scouting seeing only does and cows. Day 2 more does and a couple more cows along with a little club bull. Day 3 we decided to hunt from the opposite direction we had been. We were seeing the moose around mid morning and again mid afternoon. None earlier, none later. Right on cue a bull comes out of the willows, steps over the fence, crosses a road and onto a sage brush hillside. Game on!

Brother (Montanaborn here) did it old school as you can see, no camo and his 1921 Savage .300 shooting Core Lokts.

After a discussion we decided to tip him on his back with the truck so we could get to the work at hand. IFG Wildlife Officer waved at us from the road and continued on with his duties.

We got the hinds off and quartered during intermittent snow. Jeez, we are taking too much time! Let’s get him back to camp, put more tarps down so we can keep things clean! How to get the whole front into the truck was the next gamble, but worked out. The jet sled, come-a-long and driving the truck to where we could put rear wheels in barrow pit, a lot of words people shouldn’t hear and we were on our way back to camp.

At camp we skinned out the hinds, hung them and went to work on the front. Geez why didn’t we take the legs off the rears up on the hill? Got the front quartered. Ah for …. sakes, we need another meat pole!! More bad words for the 20th time. Then it was time to hang the front quarters. How in the …. are we going to do that? Ahh, let’s use the winch on the ATV. Front of ATV coming off the ground, but got the first one up. Second one, the meat hook we had through the ribs straightened out and went into the creek, boom! Rope through the ribs and up the last one went.

Friends showed up on Friday because we both know we couldn’t load out by ourselves. Some help is better than no help. They helped with some trimming and skinning out the head. All loaded up on Sunday evening and hit the road home 7:00 on Monday morning. First stop was to the processor we have always used.
Tuesday was check-in of skull at IDFG so they could collect DNA. Then a drive to the guy who is doing brother’s euro, which was in itself a very impressive operation.
The jury is still out as far as myself putting in again next year. All in all a great week in the mountains with my brother.

Nice moose. Being able to drive up to the animals saved you both a lot of "back pain". Great time hunting and great memories with your brother. Congrats!

Great to see your brother's Moose opportunity turned successful, Larry! Congratulations to both of you! I recall your hopes when we met a month earlier. Glad all went well and the refinement of the words used seem fitting - especially for the creek dunk!

Grats!
